In this episode Jon turned the tables on me and grilled me with a few questions (or many).
We picked up where we left off at the end of the last episode.
Jon asked me about my product I had created on the Genesis Framework, called ‘WordPress Genesis for Beginners’ and this was version 2.0. The first version of this product was a PDF that I sold for $67. The PDF walked people through how to set up a Genesis WordPress site (because when you install it, it looks nothing like the demo). The second version of WordPress Genesis for Beginners had 3 variations:
- An ebook (that came with a kindle version)
- An ebook and videos (10 videos)
- An ebook, videos and bonus content ( a couple more ebooks on design & SEO, a design interview, a custom template, checklist, etc.).
Jon asked me what I was doing before selling the Genesis course… which was WordPress websites (something I never wanted to do).
A few other things I had done in between were: 4 week Genesis webinar course (we went over one theme every week), a Kindle publishing class, other paid webinars, etc. , but never really had a core product.
I ranted a little bit about working with website clients (which we’ll just leave alone because at the end of the day we all know how that goes) but bear with me because I moved off of that topic.[Tweet “Every time I do something because I trusted my gut it pays off ten-fold. @kimdoyal”]
What was probably the biggest game changer for me was when I joined my first mastermind and tried paid traffic for the first time. To this day I remember those numbers like the back of my hand. I spent $80 on Facebook ads, made $500 in strategy session calls and ended up netting $10k in coaching clients.
Probably my only regret in my business was not getting into paid traffic sooner.
Transitioning into Coaching
Jon asked me how I went from websites to coaching and what that transition looked like. My first coaching client was a subscriber on my list who reached out to me and asked me if I did coaching. I was very transparent with her and told her I hadn’t yet but had been thinking about it.
So that was my first coaching client.
The next thing I did was email my subscriber list and told people I was looking for case studies. I instantly had 6 people respond (keep in mind, I never said it was free).
Podcasting Done For You – High Ticket Services
After having launched my own podcast and having had a lot of success with it I decided to step into podcasting done for you services. Before I launched the services though we did three complete setups for free for people so we could map out our processes, figure out our systems and determine the correct price.
Having done that for a year or so now though I’ve realized that as much as I love podcasting, I’d rather do my own shows than produce someone else’s.
The one thing I am planning on doing is launching a quality podcast course.
Then Jon asked me… “what’s your secret sauce?”
I learned to trust myself and honor how I wanted to move through the world.
I made a very conscious decision to “Just Show UP!”
… and for the rest of the show, you’re going to have to listen to the episode!
